Aloe Vera Juice and Salve

This refreshing green leaf is chock full of skin-nutrients for the summer sun and hot days. Whip up an aloe juice and store in the fridge for a cool afternoon break. We use oranges, but any fruit juice can be used. For a creamier version, throw in some papayas and milk or yogurt.

INGREDIENTS

400g aloe vera leaf

3-5 oranges, or 1/2 papaya

 

METHOD

Cut the ends of the leaf and the spiky edges,

 

Split the aloe leaf length-wise and filet the clear gel out of leaf using spoon or butter knife. Be careful not to pick up the yellow or latex of the leaf. This will make your aloe taste bitter and may cause irritation.

 

Put all aloe vera gel into a blender and add juice of 3-5 oranges or any other citrus fruit and blend for about 2 minutes.

 

Refrigerate blended mixture until settled. Approximately 2 hours.

 

Note: To use as a skin salve do not add any juices and blend only aloe gel or apply directly to affected area and refrigerate any unused pieces or unused juice.
